Printing refers to the technology of transferring the ink to the surface of paper, fabric, leather and other materials through the processes of plate making, ink application, and pressure, and copying the content of the original in batches.

In a broad sense, printing includes prepress, printing, post-press and various processes and processes related to graphic reproduction. It has a series of complex production processes and standards, and has a large number of professional terms.

Common terms for printing processes

noun termExplanation of terms

Four-color printing

Cyan (C), magenta (M), yellow (Y), black (K) four kinds of inks. All colors can be mixed by these four inks to finally form graphic colors.
spot color printingA special ink is used to print this color during the printing process.

screen printing

A screen printing plate with graphics and text is made by using silk screen as the plate base and by the method of photosensitive plate making.

Glue (laminate)

The transparent plastic film is applied to the surface of the printed matter by hot pressing to protect and increase the gloss (divided into light film and matte film, among which there is also a high-end film called tactile film, which has a good feel and is expensive).

glazing

Also known as oil or glazing oil, a layer of colorless transparent paint is applied (or sprayed or printed) on the surface of the printed matter, which protects and increases the gloss of the printed matter after drying. This processing process is called glazing. Generally, the surface of printed matter such as book covers, illustrations, calendars, and trademark decoration should be glazed. There are three ways of glazing, namely coating, calendering and UV glazing, which can increase the moisture-proof, sun-proof, wear-resistant, anti-fouling and water-resistant properties of the printed matter.

bronzing

The processing process of transferring metal foil or pigment foil to the surface of printed matter or other items by hot pressing is called hot foil, commonly known as hot stamping, and its purpose is to enhance the decorative effect.

Convex plate

The part of the printed matter is made to protrude from the paper surface or feel concave, usually called convex or concave, and concave and convex molds must be made.

flocking

Brush a layer of glue on the surface of the printed matter, and then apply a layer of fluff material to make the surface of the printed matter have the effect of flannel.

embossing

Embossing process is a process that uses concave and convex molds to cause plastic deformation of the printed matter under a certain pressure, thereby performing artistic processing on the surface of the printed matter. The embossed printed matter surface presents patterns and textures of different shades, with obvious three-dimensional sense of relief, which increases the artistic appeal of the printed matter.

die cutting

The die-cutting process is a finished product process in which a special die-cutting knife is made according to the design requirements of the printed matter, and then the printed matter or other substrates are rolled and cut into the desired shape or cut under the action of pressure.

fold

Folding is a common post-press process, and there are folding methods such as half folding, three folding, four folding, five folding, and accordion folding.

indentation

If the paper is too thick or the pulp is too brittle, if the printed product is folded directly, the internal pulp will be exposed, which will cause serious damage to the printed product and the picture. And indentation is the solution to this problem. There are three types of indentation: flat pressing, rolling pressing and rotary pressing.

Close the line (ant line)

Also known as dotted line, dotted line, needle and thread, dental floss, etc. It is often used in the production process of coupons, prize tickets, receipts, tickets, discount cards, etc.
punchDig holes and punch holes in the printed matter according to the size as required, and the common tag printing.

Call the number

Receipts, tickets, contracts, coupons, etc. often involve the process of dialing numbers. This type of equipment often adopts an automatic skipping dock, installed on a set of rotating shafts, and realized by the rotation of the shafts. There are two kinds of glue and lead.

mount

Simply put, two sheets of different materials are flattened and bonded together by the glue on the machine to form a new sheet. Common are pit boxes and board books. The process sequence and die-cutting depend on the nature of the product.

Scratched silver

Scratch silver ink refers to the layer of silver ink that is easily scraped off for covering passwords (deduction areas) such as lottery tickets, phone cards, and tax invoices. This type of ink is divided into ordinary scrape silver ink and UV light curable UV scrape silver ink.

drip plastic

Drop molding is a thermoplastic polymer material that is shaped into a designed form according to the requirements. The curing type at room temperature makes the surface of the printed matter obtain a crystal-like raised effect. Drop molding process is often used in notebook printing, packaging box surface decoration, signs and other places.
Hot stamping mouthThe process of scalding and coloring on the cuts of books, books, and cards with gold materials and special tools.
