Chief Digital is a well-known corrugated paper printing company headquartered in Akworth, Georgia. The sister company of the company is Chief Container, and we are honored to share their success stories and recent achievements.
Aaron Hayes, Vice President of Chief Digital, stated that although digital printing is not always the most cost-effective or efficient method, there is still a need to explore its potential. Therefore, the company started with smaller tablet machines such as the old McDermid UVR device, HP 950, and HP 700 to meet the market's demand for short version production.
Over time, Chief Digital has provided customers with large-scale digital printing orders and became the first company in the United States to install HP PageWide C500 corrugated paper digital post printing. The C500 is a new equipment, but its excellent printing quality, water-based ink, and compliance with primary and secondary food packaging requirements make it an ideal choice for customers. Over the next four years, regular technological updates will gradually take place, and HP will focus on Chief Digital's production plan with a short start-up time.
In the summer of 2022, HP and Chief Digital collaborated to develop an upgrade plan to upgrade the C500 printing machine to the new HP PageWide C550. Although upgraded production printing machines may pose potential risks and challenges, the printing quality has been greatly improved, which means more development opportunities.
Chief Digital is a G7 Master Facility with GMI qualifications as a major retailer. They recognize the crucial role of color calibration and choose to upgrade to the newly developed ink group first, followed by a comprehensive update, including changes in printing machine speed and media handling.
In September 2022, after the upgrade was completed and the colors were recalibrated, the printing machine met the requirements of the G7 Mastercolor standard. This also proves that the new ink set was successful, and the final stage of the upgrade begins during the holiday. The HP team is on-site modifying hardware, updating software, and fine-tuning the printing machine to create the world's first production C550 machine, including from feeding to stacking machines.
Chief Digital is committed to improving productivity and sees unlimited potential in the new C550 printing press. The new C550 retains all the excellent qualities of the original C500 printing machine, including water-based ink that meets food standards, impressive 1200dpi printing quality, the ability to print variable data and images, and excellent service. With the increase in printing machine speed to 295 lf/m and faster processing speed, Chief Digital's productivity has increased by over 20% during business hours.
